Julia May Carson (born July 8 1938 as Julia May Porter), is an American politician. She has been a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, representing the 7th District of Indiana. (map (http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/preview/congdist/in07_109.gif))
Carson was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and was educated at both Martin University in Indianapolis and at Indiana University-Purdue University. Prior to entering the House, she was an office-bearer in the United Auto Workers, a staff assistant to Representative Andrew Jacobs, Jr., and a member of the Indiana House of Representatives and the Indiana Senate. Carson is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.
