Joseph McDowell (General)

Joseph McDowell (1758–1799) was an American lawyer, soldier, and statesman from Morganton, North Carolina. He was a general of the state's militia during the Revolutionary War, and later served in the U.S. Congress from 1793 to 1795. He died on March 7, 1801 on his estate in Burke County, North Carolina (now McDowell County). His cousin, Joseph McDowell also served in the congress.
