José Antonio Bautista (born October 19, 1980 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a Major League Baseball infielder/outfielder and right-handed batter who plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Bautista has played for the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Kansas City Royals, New York Mets and now Pittsburgh this season, which says something about his talent, but also something about how big a project he is. The Pirates had lost him last winter in the Rule 5 draft and he made his debut on with Baltimore on April 4. He was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay on June 3 and traded to Kansas City on June 28. Then, he was sent to the Mets on July 30, and one day later, he was traded to Pittsburgh.
Bautista has not been very successful with any of them, but he is only 23, and the Pirates have expressed interest in having him back.
