John Lapli

Sir John Ini Lapli (born 1955) was the Governor-General of the Solomon Islands from July 7 1999 until July 7 2004. He was taken hostage in 2000 during a coup, but released after a few days, when the Prime Minister and his government promised to resign. In June 2004 Lapli was not re-elected to the position of governor-general for another 5-year term, receiving only 6 of the 41 votes in Parliament.
