Jim Sheridan (born February 9, 1949) is an Irish film director. In 1989 he directed My Left Foot, which became a critical and commercial success. He followed that with The Field in 1990, then In the Name of the Father in 1993, a heavily fictionalised re-telling of the case of the Guildford Four. The Boxer was nominated for a Golden Globe for best film drama in 1997. In 2002 he released the semi-autobiographical In America to generally good reviews. He is currently directing Get Rich or Die Tryin', a film starring rap star 50 Cent. He's been nominated for six Academy Awards, but has yet to win.
