Jesse Carver

Jesse Carver (born 1911) was an English association footballer, best remembered for his enlightened management of some of Europe's finest clubs.
Carver played as a centre half for Newcastle United F.C., Bury F.C. and Blackburn Rovers F.C. before embarking on a glamorous international management career in the days before such lifestyles were commonplace. In the years following World War II football training still commonly took place without a football, aiming at running alone. It was even suggested that allowing players to kick a ball between matches would quench their thirst for the game. Carver was at the forefront of innovation in improving the skills, athleticism and theoretical knowledge of players ... and using the ball during training.
