Jerry Moran (born May 29, 1954, in Great Bend, Kansas), an American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1997, representing Kansas's 1st District (map (http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/preview/congdist/ks01_109.gif)). He attended Fort Hays State University and the University of Kansas, graduating with a degrees in Economics and Law. He served for eight years (1989-1996) in the Kansas State Senate, including as Senate Majority Leader for his two final years. He was elected to the House in 1996 and serves as Assistant Majority Whip.
Throughout his time in Congress, Moran has been an advocate and leader on issues important to middle-America. In addition to being widely recognized for his work in agriculture, Moran is also a strong proponent for lowering health care costs, providing opportunities for small businesses and protecting the rural way of life.
