Istanbul Province is a province located in north-west Turkey. Its area is 5110 km2, population 10,018,735 (2000 census). It is surrounded by the provinces of Tekirdağ to the west, and Kocaeli to the east, the Black Sea to the north, and the Sea of Marmara to the south. The Bosphorus (Boğaziçi) Strait divides the province in two parts, one in Asia, and one in Europe. Its capital is the city of Istanbul.
