Iosco Township is a township located within the southwest quadrant of Livingston County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 3,039. The estimated population for 2002 was 3,463 persons.
Iosco Township was settled in 1835 and organized into a township in 1838. It is the county's least populated township with 1,567 people according to the 1990 census. Agriculture is a big way of life within the township. Iosco has only one population center, the settlement of Parkers Corners. Farmsteads, churches and cemeteries are dotted across the countryside of Iosco Township.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 92.0 km² (35.5 mi²). 91.9 km² (35.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.14% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,039 people, 921 households, and 796 families residing in the township. The population density is 33.1/km² (85.6/mi²). There are 964 housing units at an average density of 10.5/km² (27.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 94.83% White, 0.07% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.90% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. 3.72% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 921 households out of which 47.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 79.0% are married couples living together, 4.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.5% are non-families. 9.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.19 and the average family size is 3.40.
In the township the population is spread out with 32.6% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 5.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 108.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 102.5 males.
