International Institute for Strategic Studies

The International Institute for Strategic Studies is a British think tank providing information on international strategic issues for politicians and diplomats, foreign affairs analysts, international business, economists, the military, defence commentators, journalists, academics and the informed public.
It is an independent organisation claiming no allegiance to any government, or to any political or other organisation.
Its current President-Emeritus is Sir Michael Howard, the British military historian. Sir Michael founded the institute in 1958, together with the British Labour politicans, Denis Healey and Alistair Buchan, the son of the novelist and Canadian Governor General, John Buchan.
On May 24, 2005 the London-based think-tank stated that Washington's policies of promoting democracy in Iraq and elsewhere looked "increasingly effective".[1] (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20050524/wl_afp/iissworld_050524180225)
