Imperial Beach is a city located in San Diego County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 26,992.

Geography
Imperial Beach is located at 32°34'42" North, 117°7'2" West (32.578255, -117.117111)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.7 km² (4.5 mi²). 11.1 km² (4.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.53% water.
The city occupies the extreme southwest corner of the continental United States, being bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, and Mexico on the south.
Demographics (2000 census)
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 26,992 people, 9,272 households, and 6,453 families residing in the city. The population density is 2,440.7/km² (6,324.2/mi²). There are 9,739 housing units at an average density of 880.6/km² (2,281.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 62.26% White, 5.26% African American, 1.10% Native American, 6.55% Asian, 0.60% Pacific Islander, 17.77% from other races, and 6.45% from two or more races. 40.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 9,272 households out of which 40.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.2% are married couples living together, 18.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% are non-families. 21.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.84 and the average family size is 3.30.
In the city the population is spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 13.9% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $35,882, and the median income for a family is $37,352. Males have a median income of $29,692 versus $24,201 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,003. 18.8% of the population and 14.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 23.7% of those under the age of 18 and 9.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Current estimates
According to estimates by the San Diego Association of Governments, the median household income of Imperial Beach in 2004 was $44,700 (not adjusted for inflation). When adjusted for inflation (1999 dollars; comparable to Census data above), the median household income was $40,031.
