The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay)is one of the Indian Institutes of Technology. It was established in 1958 with assistance from the Soviet Union.

Campus
The IIT Bombay campus is located at Powai, a northern suburb of Mumbai between Vihar and Powai lakes. The two closest Mumbai Suburban Railway stations are the Central line stops Kanjurmarg and Vikhroli. The four main entrances to campus are the Main Gate, the Middle Gate(Closed recently due to security reasons), the Y-Point Gate and the lake side gate. Main Gate remains open 24 hrs while Y gate serves the purpose only between 07:00 am to 12:00 pm
Due partly to the monsoons and partly to the fact that the campus abuts the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the campus is extremely green. The proximity of the national park has also led to occasional excitement in the form of panther sightings.
There are 13 Student Hostel (11 Boys hostel & 2 Girls hostel), Tansa House & Staff Hostel (for unmarried & married Research Scholars resp.), & a lot of residential apartments for Faculty & staff.
Academics
IIT Bombay offers a wide variety of courses of study in engineering, pure sciences, design, management and humanities with a primary focus on engineering. The university is a member of LAOTSE, an international network of leading universities in Europe and Asia exchanging students and senior scholars.
Every year, IIT-B awards degrees, B-Tech, M-Tech and PHd to more than 900 students. At a given time, the campus is home to more than 3000 people, comprising of students, professors and non academic staff.
