Hveragerši is a small town in the south of Iceland at about 40 km to the east of Reykjavķk on the river Varmį. It has around 1,700 residents.
The town is known for its greenhouses which are heated by hot water from volcanic hot springs in the area and in the town itself. Even exotic fruits are grown in these greenhouses. The area is part of the Hengill central volcano. Even in the gardens, you can detect white or red earth which is fuming.
To the south of Hveragerši, there is the small port of Žorlįkshöfn. From here a ferry to the island of Heimaey can be taken.
