History
Hudson was founded in 1878 by Isaac Hudson who moved his family to the uninhabited brush of coastal Pasco County at that time and established a post office. The town grew in the early 20th C when the Fivay Company began cutting lumber and shipping it out on a train to Tampa. Hudson stagnated when the Fivay Company went out of business and people turned to the sea or moved out of town. There was a shrimping and fishing industry which employed about half of the working males in the 1930's-1950's. In the late 50's a team of realtors paid to have the Army Corps of Engineers dig 25 Miles of canals, as if they were streets, the lots along the new waterfront area were then sold for a profit, creating a boon in new residents. In the 1980's people began building larger homes (most were mobile homes) along the canals and now the town is being suburbanized by large developments inland, while its older waterfront core is being revitalized.
