|
Howard Louis Johnson (born in 1941) is a post-bop jazz musician known mainly for his work on tuba and baritone saxophone, although he plays other reeds and trumpet as well.
In the 1960s he worked with Charles Mingus, Hank Crawford, and Archie Shepp. He also began a long association with Gil Evans in 1966.
He has also led two tuba bands, Substructure and Gravity. He has recorded frequently.
He should not be confused with Howard E. Johnson, a swing alto saxophonist.
