House Party

House Party is a 1990 comedy film released by New Line Cinema. It stars Christopher "Kid" Reid and Christopher "Play" Martin of the popular hip hop duo Kid 'n Play, and also features Martin Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, and Robin Harris. The film was written and directed by Reginald Hudlin, who had originally intended the film for hip-hop group DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince.
The story revolves a house party being thrown by Play. He invites Kid, who has been grounded by his father (Harris) and has to find a way to sneak out of the house and attend the party.
The film was a popular success, and two sequels were made with Kid 'N Play: House Party 2 (1991) also features Lawrence and Campbell, who became the stars of their own hit television show, Martin, the next year; and House Party 3 (1993), featuring hip hop/R&B groups TLC and Immature in supporting roles. In 2001, Immature (now going by IMx) starred in a direct-to-video sequel, House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute, which does not feature Kid or Play.
As depicted in the film, a "house party" is typically a raucous party thrown at the host's house, instead of at a nightclub or other such venue. House parties, often thrown by teenagers and college students, typically involve loud music and a wealth of alcohol and possibly other drugs, such as marijuana, Ecstasy, or cocaine. However, it should be noted that in the House Party film, there was no drug use, and alcohol use was discouraged.
