Horticulture Research International or Warwick HRI is the principal UK organisation tasked with carrying out horticultural research and development (R&D) and transferring the results to industry. It is affiliated with the University of Warwick.
Warwick HRI was formed on 1st April 2004 following the integration of Horticulture Research International’s (HRI) sites at Wellesbourne and Kirton with The University of Warwick.

Warwick HRI is recognised and renowned for the excellence of its science, undertaken by multidisciplinary teams of world-class scientists. Basic and strategic research underpins all of Warwick HRI’s applied research, ensuring the practical results used by growers and industry are based on secure foundations. By maintaining close links with the horticulture industry through events, conferences, publications, products and services we strive to ensure that our research reaches those it effects.
Warwick HRI’s research takes place on two dedicated sites. Our site at Wellesbourne in Warwickshire spans 191 hectares and contains protected crop facilities, state of the art computer controlled glasshouses, an industry-standard mushroom unit, and modern laboratories (including the recently developed £2.5m Genomics Resource Centre). Our site at Kirton in Lincolnshire spans 50 hectares, with modern seed handling equipment and a 4-hectare organic area.

Warwick HRI has forged and continues to develop close links with other departments at the University of Warwick to enhance and develop research output. Interdisciplinary research will flourish through collaborations with other departments within the Science Faculty, including the departments of Biological Science, Chemistry and Engineering, and departments within the Social Studies Faculty such as the Department of Economics and the Warwick Business School.
