Horseheads North is a census-designated place and census enumeration district with a location in Chemung County, New York. As of the 2000 census, this area had a total population of 2,852.
The CDP is located in the Town of Horseheads.
Geography
Horseheads North is located at 42°11'23" North, 76°48'23" West (42.189774, -76.806351)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the location has a total area of 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²). 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,852 people, 1,091 households, and 833 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 478.8/km² (1,239.1/mi²). There are 1,116 housing units at an average density of 187.3/km² (484.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.88% White, 0.84% African American, 0.14% Native American, 1.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 0.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,091 households out of which 35.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.0% are married couples living together, 10.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.6% are non-families. 18.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.00.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 26.6% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who are 65 years of age or older.
