Hornellsville is a town located in Steuben County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,042.

History
The Town of Hornellsville was formed from part of the Town of Canisteo in 1820.
Geography
The west town line is the border of Allegany County, New York.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 113.1 km² (43.7 mi²). 112.6 km² (43.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.41% water.
The Southern Tier Expressway (Interstate 86, N.Y. 17) passes through the north part of the town. The Canisteo River flows through the town.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,042 people, 1,669 households, and 1,098 families residing in the town. The population density is 35.9/km² (93.0/mi²). There are 1,830 housing units at an average density of 16.3/km² (42.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.92% White, 0.52% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.82% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. 0.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,669 households out of which 26.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% are married couples living together, 8.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% are non-families. 29.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the town the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 22.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 88.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.1 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $36,932, and the median income for a family is $48,688. Males have a median income of $33,426 versus $22,193 for females.
