Hordeum arizonicum |
Hordeum is a genus of about 20 species of annual and perennial grasses, native throughout the temperate Northern Hemisphere and also temperate South America.
One species, H. vulgare (Barley or Six-rowed Barley), is of major commercial importance as a cereal grain. Several of the other species have been used to a small extent, notably H. distichon (Two-rowed Barley). Some are also nuisance weeds in cereal crops, as, being grasses like the crop, they cannot be selectively removed; any herbicide that would kill them would also damage the crop.Template:Plant-stub
