Holley, New York

Holley is a village located in Orleans County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,802. The town is named after canal official Myron Holley.

The Village of Holley was incorporated in 1867 and is in the Town of Murray.

Geography

Holley is located at 43°13'32" North, 78°1'40" West (43.225671, -78.027801)Template:GR.

Holley is on the Erie Canal.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²). 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,802 people, 788 households, and 464 families residing in the village. The population density is 547.8/km² (1,422.9/mi²). There are 846 housing units at an average density of 257.2/km² (668.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 96.95% White, 1.22% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.72% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. 2.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 788 households out of which 32.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.0% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.0% are non-families. 33.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the village the population is spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $36,367, and the median income for a family is $49,200. Males have a median income of $31,019 versus $23,077 for females. The per capita income for the village is $17,388. 10.2% of the population and 7.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.5% of those under the age of 18 and 11.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
