Hillsdale is a borough located in Bergen County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 10,087.
Geography
Hillsdale is located at 41°0'27" North, 74°2'33" West (41.007389, -74.042472)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 7.7 km² (3.0 mi²). 7.7 km² (3.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water, but apparently this analysis ignores the many streams that flow through.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 10,087 people, 3,502 households, and 2,850 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,306.9/km² (3,383.2/mi²). There are 3,547 housing units at an average density of 459.6/km² (1,189.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 92.41% White, 0.85% African American, 0.07% Native American, 5.08% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.86% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 4.25% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,502 households out of which 38.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.8% are married couples living together, 7.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.6% are non-families. 15.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.87 and the average family size is 3.20.
In the borough the population is spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.8 males.
The median income for a household in the borough is $82,904, and the median income for a family is $90,861. Males have a median income of $65,052 versus $43,558 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $34,651. 3.3% of the population and 2.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.9% of those under the age of 18 and 3.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
