AC/DC Chronology | ||
If You Want Blood (1978) | Highway to Hell (1979) | Back in Black (1980) |
Highway to Hell is a hard rock album by Australian band AC/DC, released in 1979 (see 1979 in music). By far their most popular album at the time of its release, Highway to Hell expanded AC/DC's audience considerably, and left poised for breakthrough success the following year, with Back in Black, after the untimely death of Bon Scott.
Pre-production of the album began in January 1979 with demos cut at Albert Studios in Sydney where they met the intended producer Eddie Kramer. The album was recorded during sessions in February 1979 at Criteria Studios in Miami and March-April at Roundhouse Studios in London. Kramer began as producer in February but AC/DC fired him before a single track had been completed. The album was released first in the UK and then in the US on July 30.
