Highland Village, Texas

Highland Village is a small city located in Denton County, Texas, hugging the south side of the far western branch of Lewisville Lake. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 12,173. A number of residential communities reside within Highland Village including Highland Shores and Castlewood.

Local Politics & History
Highland Village has been the site of a local controversy concerning the extension of FM2499 to Corinth, Texas The most visible opponent, Paul LeBon, although fairly popular, is faced with a libel and slander lawsuit, due to various seemingly unfounded allegations against local city council members.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.6 km² (6.4 mi²). 14.3 km² (5.5 mi²) of it is land and 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.88% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 12,173 people, 3,874 households, and 3,552 families residing in the city. The population density is 851.5/km² (2,206.6/mi²). There are 4,009 housing units at an average density of 280.4/km² (726.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.21% White, 1.47% African American, 0.40% Native American, 1.92% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.80% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. 3.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,874 households out of which 53.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 85.3% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 8.3% are non-families. 6.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.14 and the average family size is 3.29.

In the city the population is spread out with 32.9% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 4.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 99.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $102,141, and the median income for a family is $105,109. Males have a median income of $79,626 versus $41,102 for females. The per capita income for the city is $40,613. 0.4% of the population and 0.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.1% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
