Heathrow Terminal 4 tube station
|
Heathrow Terminal 4 is a currently closed station on the Heathrow branch of London Underground's Piccadilly Line. The station is located in Travelcard Zone 6 and opened on the 12th April 1986.
Heathrow Terminal 4 is situated on a unidirectional loop track between Hatton Cross and Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3. From the time of its opening until 7th January 2005, almost all trains used this loop, calling at Hatton Cross, Heathrow T4, Heathrow T123 and back to Hatton Cross in that order. On that date, both the loop track and the station were closed in order to allow the construction of a new rail junction to link to the new Heathrow Terminal 5 station. All trains have now reverted to using the original westbound track from Hatton Cross direct to Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3 which was used prior to the opening of Heathrow Terminal 4. For passengers travelling to or from Heathrow Terminal 4, a shuttle bus in now provided from Hatton Cross tube station.
This situation is expected to last until September 2006. When the new Terminal 5 station opens, it is anticipated that the service pattern will be that every other train arriving at Hatton Cross will run via the Heathrow Terminal 4 loop, whilst the alternate trains will run direct to Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3 and then continue down the new branch to Heathrow Terminal 5.
