Hazel Blears

The Rt. Hon. Hazel Anne Blears MP (born May 14, 1956) is a politician in the United Kingdom, and is the Labour Member of Parliament for Salford in Greater Manchester. She is Minister of State for Crime Reduction, Policing & Community Safety at the Home Office, and is on the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party.
She worked as a local government solicitor in the 1980s, having graduated from Chester College of Law. She married Michael Halsall in 1989.
She entered parliament in the 1997 elections, having previously contested the 1992 general election for Bury South and Tatton in the 1987 election. After the 1997 election she became Parliamentary Private Secretary to Alan Milburn at the Department of Health, then from 1999 moved with him to the Treasury. She became a junior minister in the Health department in 2001 until she was moved to the Home Office in 2003. She was made a Member of the Privy Council on 7th June 2005.
