Cast
Locations
Some of the sets for the film were built in Glen Coe, Scotland, near to the Clachaig Inn. The indoor sets, including sets built for the previous two films, are mainly in Leavesden Film Studios. The Hogwarts lake was filmed from Loch Shiel in the Highlands of Sotland. Incedentally, the train bridge which was also featured in the Chamber of Secrets movie is opposite Loch Shiel, and was used to film the sequences when the Dementor arrived on the train. Alterations from the Book
- The backstory involving Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs is not explained
- Harry receives his Firebolt at the end of his third year rather than at Christmas
- A choir of Hogwarts students is added.
- The dementors float rather than glide. They also fly.
- A shrunken head, voiced by Lenny Henry, is added to the Knight Bus as, according to Cuarón, a "wizarding equivalent to radio"
- Harry is caught with the Marauder's Map by Snape while wondering around at night trying to find Peter Pettigrew rather than after visiting Hogsmeade a second time.
- "Moony" is spelled "Mooney" as an in-joke referring to Karl Mooney, one of the visual effects supervisors. In the DVD subtitles, it is spelled "Moony" as it was in the book.
- The quidditch cup is left out.
- A romance is implied between Ron Weasely and Hermione Granger.
- A close relationship is implied between Remus Lupin and Harry's mother, Lily Potter. There has been much debate over whether the director intended to to imply a romantic past between the two chracters or simply a deep friendship.
- A romance is implied between Sirius Black and Remus Lupin.
- Ron confronts the bogart spider by giving it roller skates rather than removing it's legs. The boggarts of other characters were changed as well.
- While in the Shrieking Shack, only Harry attacks and knocks out Snape, as opposed to Harry, Ron, and Hermione together.
- Professor Trelawney's many predictions of Harry's death are left out.
- Professor Trelawney's prediction that "Around Easter, one of our number will leave us forever," is left out.
Continuity Issues
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has several contradictions with the previous films, most of which involve the landscaping and layout of Hogwarts. For example, in the first two films, Hagrid's hut is a short distance from the castle, but in the third film it is much farther away. The landscape of the film also changes notably. For example, In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Hogwarts is featured in an enclosed mountainous valley, but in the first two films no mountains surround Hogwarts, which is closer to the actual description in the books. Despite the fact the Harry Potter films are not considered canon, many fans find the lack of continuity irksome. Template:Section stub
