Hari
|
Hari is another name of Vishnu or God and appears as the 650th name in the Vishnu sahasranama.
According to Adi Sankara' s commentary on the Vishnu sahasranama, Hari means "One who destroys samsara, which is the entanglement in the cycle of birth and death, along with ignorance, its cause."
The word hari in Sanskrit refers to a colour, yellow, or fawn-coloured/khaki (it is the colour of the Sun and of Soma, see also Hare Krishna). The word also gives rise to many words in other related languages .For example - the Latin word aurum for gold , daylight in Bahasa Indonesia , dawn in Malay or King in Tagalog.
The Word Hari is also a common Indian name. It is also used in combination with other names, like Hariprasad, Harikrishna, etc.
