Hanson is a town located in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 9,495.

History
Hanson was first settled in 1632 and was officially incorporated in 1820.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 40.6 km² (15.7 mi²). 38.9 km² (15.0 mi²) of it is land and 1.7 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.21% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 9,495 people, 3,123 households, and 2,545 families residing in the town. The population density is 244.2/km² (632.5/mi²). There are 3,178 housing units at an average density of 81.7/km² (211.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.64% White, 1.11% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.58% from other races, and 1.10% from two or more races. 0.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,123 households out of which 40.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.6% are married couples living together, 8.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.5% are non-families. 14.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.03 and the average family size is 3.38.
In the town the population is spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.7 males.
