Hanover is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,355. While Hanover is mainly located in Wright County, Minnesota, a part of the city extends into Hennepin County as well.
Even though Hanover is partly in the metropolitan county of Hennepin, it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Twin Cities' Metropolitan Council.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.3 km² (5.1 mi²). 12.7 km² (4.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.68% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,355 people, 440 households, and 370 families residing in the city. The population density is 107.0/km² (277.0/mi²). There are 456 housing units at an average density of 36.0/km² (93.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.75% White, 0.00% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. 0.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 440 households out of which 48.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.4% are married couples living together, 3.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 15.7% are non-families. 12.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.08 and the average family size is 3.38.
In the city the population is spread out with 33.4% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 36.0% from 25 to 44, 18.7% from 45 to 64, and 4.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.8 males.
