Hanover is a village located in Jackson County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 424.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and 2.38% is water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 424 people, 155 households, and 121 families residing in the village. The population density is 399.3/km² (1,031.2/mi²). There are 164 housing units at an average density of 154.4/km² (398.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.82% White, 0.94% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 155 households out of which 43.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% are married couples living together, 16.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.9% are non-families. 19.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the village the population is spread out with 32.1% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 94.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $38,750, and the median income for a family is $39,167. Males have a median income of $35,833 versus $25,625 for females. The per capita income for the village is $13,254. 18.7% of the population and 17.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 27.6% of those under the age of 18 and 13.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
