Hampton is a census-designated place located in Baltimore County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 5,004. Hampton is a subdivision of Towson located just north of Baltimore City, Maryland. It offers the grace, comfort and security of country living an is only twenty minutes from downtown Baltimore. Hampton is a community more than 635 homes situated on lots up to several acres, with the serenity of a park-like setting and an abundance of wildlife and trees. The community is anchored by its principle landmark, the National Historic Site and Hampton Mansion. Built in 1790 by Captain Charles Ridgely, the Hampton Mansion is a Georgian style home that was once a working plantation and industrial site. In 1929 the Hampton Development Company was formed and the land around the Hampton Mansion site was subdivided, creating the Hampton Community. The Hampton Mansion remained in the Ridgely family until it became a National Park in 1946. The homes in the Hampton community range quite widely in price, design, features and lot sizes.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.8 km² (5.7 mi²). 14.8 km² (5.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 5,004 people, 1,900 households, and 1,578 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 338.4/km² (876.2/mi²). There are 1,935 housing units at an average density of 130.8/km² (338.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 91.41% White, 1.48% African American, 0.00% Native American, 6.00% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 1.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,900 households out of which 29.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.3% are married couples living together, 5.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.9% are non-families. 14.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 2.89.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 21.9% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 19.3% from 25 to 44, 30.1% from 45 to 64, and 24.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 48 years. For every 100 females there are 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.5 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $95,546, and the median income for a family is $100,240. Males have a median income of $75,518 versus $42,479 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $43,850. 1.8% of the population and 0.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.3% of those under the age of 18 and 2.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
