Hamden is a town located in Delaware County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,280.

History
The town was created as the "Town of Hampden" in 1825 from the Towns of Delhi and Walton. The current spelling of the name was adopted in 1826.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 155.0 km² (59.9 mi²). 155.0 km² (59.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.05% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,280 people, 541 households, and 366 families residing in the town. The population density is 8.3/km² (21.4/mi²). There are 902 housing units at an average density of 5.8/km² (15.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.66% White, 0.16% African American, 1.17% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 541 households out of which 26.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% are non-families. 28.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.86.
In the town the population is spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.5 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $35,313, and the median income for a family is $43,571. Males have a median income of $26,776 versus $21,652 for females.
