HMAS Penguin

Two ships of the Royal Australian navy have been named Penguin. The first HMAS Penguin was a Challenger class light cruiser.
The second HMAS Penguin was a submarine depot ship built for the Royal Navy by John Brown and Company at Clydebank in Scotland, launched on 28 October 1916, commissioned on 21 March 1917, transferred to the Royal Australian Navy and commissioned as HMAS Platypus on 25 March 1919 and renamed Penguin on 16 August 1929. HMAS Penguin paid off on 1 November 1956, was sold for scrap on 20 February 1958 and towed to Japan by the tug Chitose Maru.
