The Heckler & Koch UMP ('Universal Maschinenpistole', or universal submachine gun) is a submachine gun that was designed as a replacement for the Heckler & Koch MP5. It was designed to be less expensive and lighter than its larger cousin. The UMP9 is almost 1 lb lighter than the 9mm MP5. It is constructed of mostly polymers to reduce weight and reduce corrosion. Various accessories can be mounted on it, such as scopes and sights.
There are three versions of it, the UMP9, firing the 9x19 Parabellum cartridge, the UMP40, firing the .40 Caliber cartridge, and the UMP45, firing the .45 caliber cartridge.
