Groveland is a town located in Livingston County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,853.

History
The first settlement occurred in 1792. The town was formed in 1789. There was formerly a Shaker settlement near present-day Sonyea.
Groveland was also the site of the Boyd and Parker ambush.
Geography
Conesus Lake forms part of the eastern boundary.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 103.3 km² (39.9 mi²). 101.4 km² (39.2 mi²) of it is land and 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.85% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,853 people, 555 households, and 396 families residing in the town. The population density is 38.0/km² (98.4/mi²). There are 649 housing units at an average density of 6.4/km² (16.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 60.06% White, 32.44% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 6.46% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 15.23% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 555 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.8% are married couples living together, 6.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% are non-families. 20.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.04.
In the town the population is spread out with 9.9% under the age of 18, 10.4% from 18 to 24, 54.2% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 5.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 411.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 529.9 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $46,797, and the median income for a family is $48,828. Males have a median income of $24,353 versus $26,477 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,433. 8.8% of the population and 7.7% of families are below the poverty line.
