Greenery

Greenery is generally used to describe any foliage of a plant, either live, freshly cut, or artificial. While this may be interpreted very literally to only mean green foliage, variegated foliage with other colours is often included as well. It usually does not include flowers.
Greenery is used in landscaping naturally, but also by florists and interior designers. Most houseplants are used for their foliage, and thus are called greenery. Floral arrangements may use only flowers, but usually use some kind of greenery (commonly glossed fern leaves) to emphasize the flowers, either in colour or shape.
At Christmastime, greenery usually means boughs of pine, fir, or spruce, and possibly the classic poinsettias and mistletoe. Other more "exotic" broadleaf evergreens such as magnolia are sometimes used as well.
