According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 68.0 km² (26.3 mi²). 68.0 km² (26.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.08% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 17,283 people, 9,995 households, and 6,296 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 254.3/km² (658.6/mi²). There are 13,263 housing units at an average density of 195.2/km² (505.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 98.35% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 2.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 9,995 households out of which 1.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.8% are married couples living together, 2.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.0% are non-families. 34.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 28.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.71 and the average family size is 2.07.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 1.6% under the age of 18, 0.7% from 18 to 24, 2.8% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 73.3% who are 65 years of age or older.
