Green River, Utah

Green River is a city located in Utah. It is partially located in Emery County and partially in Grand County. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 973, 868 of which resided in Emery County, and 105 in Grand County. By 2003 the population had been estimated to decrease slightly to 958.

Green River is located at 38°59'36" north latitude & 110°8'60" west longitude (38.993258, -110.149961)Template:GR, on the banks of the Green River, after which the city is named. The San Rafael Swell region is to the west of Green River, while Canyonlands National Park lies to the south.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 32.7 km² (12.6 mi²). 32.4 km² (12.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.03% water.

Crystal Geyser, a cold water "geyser"---actually a carbon-dioxide driven, erupting well---is located about nine miles southeast of town (Glennon, J.A. and Pfaff R.M. 2005).

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 973 people, 329 households, and 238 families residing in the city. The population density is 30.0/km² (77.8/mi²). There are 376 housing units at an average density of 11.6/km² (30.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 88.28% White, 0.92% African American, 1.23% Native American, 1.23% Asian, 0.41% Pacific Islander, 7.09% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 19.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 329 households out of which 41.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% are married couples living together, 12.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.4% are non-families. 24.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.96 and the average family size is 3.48.

In the city the population is spread out with 35.7% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 17.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $28,000, and the median income for a family is $31,667. Males have a median income of $28,417 versus $16,477 for females. The per capita income for the city is $11,326. 15.6% of the population and 12.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 19.8% of those under the age of 18 and 11.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
