Green Island is a village located in Albany County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,278.
Geography
Green_Island is located at 42°44'39" North, 73°41'39" West (42.744178, -73.694219)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²). 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 23.91% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,278 people, 1,073 households, and 580 families residing in the village. The population density is 1,256.5/km² (3,262.1/mi²). There are 1,188 housing units at an average density of 655.3/km² (1,701.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 96.88% White, 1.32% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. 0.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,073 households out of which 24.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.9% are married couples living together, 14.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.9% are non-families. 38.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.12 and the average family size is 2.83.
