Great Barr Hall
|
Great Barr Hall, a Grade 2* Listed building, is a sadly neglected stately home in Great Barr, Walsall, very near Birmingham, historically in the county of Staffordshire, England.
Formerly the home of the Scott Family (who gave their name to the nearby Scott Arms pub and shopping centre), during the 1780s the Hall was leased by Samuel Galton and was the venue for meetings of the Lunar Society. Indeed, it is said to be the 'favourite place of meeting' of this illustrious body.
Recent stone memorials to the Lunar Society, the "Moonstones", are sited at the nearby Asda supermarket.
Two of the extant lodge houses are believed to be by Sir George Gilbert Scott (no relation to the hall's owners).
As of September 2 2003, the Hall is owned by the Manor Building Preservation Trust.
