Located on the shores of Lake Huron, Grand Bend, often referred to as simply "The Bend" or "GB", is part of the municipality of Lambton Shores in the county of Lambton. It is a very popular tourist destination, especially in the summer when students from Toronto, London, Ontario, and the surrounding areas enjoy Grand Bend's beaches, camping and nightlife.
The town was named for a 'bend' made by the Ausable River as it came into town; the proximity of the river, however, caused concerns about flooding, and an artificial channel was made to drain the river more directly into Lake Huron. Thus, the town's namesake no longer exits.
