Gorham CDP is a census district that comprises the central settlement area in the town of Gorham, located in Cumberland County, Maine. These statistics are included in the aggregate numbers reported for the town as a whole. As of the 2000 census, the district had a total population of 4,164.
Geography
Gorham is located at 43°40'50" North, 70°26'29" West (43.68064, -70.441489)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.0 km² (5.4 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 4,164 people, 1,317 households, and 783 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 297.2/km² (769.6/mi²). There are 1,371 housing units at an average density of 97.8/km² (253.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.76% White, 0.55% Black or African American, 0.60% Native American, 1.10% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 0.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,317 households out of which 26.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8% are married couples living together, 8.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.5% are non-families. 32.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.97.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 16.9% under the age of 18, 31.2% from 18 to 24, 19.8% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who are 65 years of age or older.
