Girl Power
|
Girl Power is a phrase most commonly associated with the British singing group the Spice Girls, conveying a positive image for women. Some groups consider it a form of misandry.
In the 1990s, prior to the Spice Girls usage, the term "girl power" or "grrl power" had been associated especially with radical feminist and lesbian movements. See also: riot grrrl
The phrase previously appeared prominently in the 1993 debut of Welsh indie band Helen Love, Formula One Racing Girls.
Some consider the expression "girl power" little more than a consumerist motivated expression. Template:Fem-stub
