Gibraltar Social Democrats

Template:Politics of Gibraltar The Gibraltar Social Democrats (abbreviated GSD) are a political party in Gibraltar. Their current leader is Peter Caruana, the Chief Minister of Gibraltar.
The party supports the current constitutional status of Gibraltar and is opposed to moves towards joint British–Spanish sovereignty, although it has traditionally been more conciliatory in its attitude to Spain than the Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party, the principal opposition.
Despite the presence of the term "social democrat" in the party name, the GSD is not aligned on the political left, as is common for most parties with such a name. They are in fact a conservative party, operating on a moderate right-of-centre platform. Economically they support reduction in taxation and duties for business.
At the 2003 election to the House of Assembly, the GSD polled 51.5% of the vote and returned 8 (out of 15) members.
