Gettysburg College is a private four year liberal arts college founded in 1832, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and abutting the famous battlefield. Their athletic teams are nicknamed the Bullets. Gettysburg College has an enrollment of slightly over 2,500 students. The majority of the students come from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, and New York.

Enrollment - Nearly 2,500 students (approximately one-half men and one-half women), representing 40 states and 35 foreign countries.

Location - Beautiful 200 acre (800,000 m²) campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park. Gettysburg, PA is 36 miles (60 km) from Harrisburg, 55 miles (80 km) from Baltimore, 80 miles (130 km) from Washington, D.C., 117 miles (190 km) from Philadelphia, and 212 miles (340 km) from New York City.

Residence Life - Approximately 96% of students live on campus in more than 40 residence halls, which include Theme Housing and the First-Year Residential College Program.

Faculty - More than 180 full-time faculty, with 95% of the permanent faculty holding the doctorate or highest earned degree in their fields. Student/faculty ratio of 11:1, with an average class size of 18 students. One of only 19 chapters of Phi Beta Kappa in Pennsylvania. Honorary or professional societies in 16 academic areas. Academic Honor Code in effect since 1957.

Governance - As an independent institution, the College operates under a charter granted in 1832 by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The College is governed by a 39-member board of trustees comprising leaders from a range of professions and walks of life. Thirty of the College’s trustees are graduates of Gettysburg.

Study Abroad - Dozens of affiliated programs world-wide. Fifty percent of Gettysburg students study off-campus.

Library Facilities - Musselman Library houses an impressive collection of books, journals, videos, sound recordings, online publications, rare books and manuscripts. An online catalog, Muscat, provides a gateway to all library materials and is accessible through any computer terminal connected to the College network. In addition, the building contains a media theatre, computer lab, and media production center. Musselman Library is open around the clock when classes are in session.

Technology - Full network capabilities in all campus buildings and each residence hall room. Students have access to more than 1,300 microcomputers and a complex system of workstations and laboratories.

Athletics - Division III-level within the Centennial Conference. Twenty-five percent of Gettysburg's students participate in extensive intercollegiate programs — twelve sports for men and twelve sports for women. A wide array of intramural and club activities to satisfy various interests and levels of skill.


Financial Aid - Both need-based and merit-based aid available. More than half of Gettysburg students receive some type of financial assistance.

Early decision - Early Decision I November 15 deadline; Early Decision II January 15 deadline; Gettysburg College mails ED admissions decisions one month after the deadline.

Regular decision - February 15 deadline. Final decisions mailed by early April.
