Geraldine Chaplin (born July 31 1944) is an Anglo-American actress. She was born the first child of Charlie Chaplin and his last wife Oona. When Geraldine was only eight years old she appeared uncredited in her famous father's "Limelight". Geraldine was educated in a boarding school in Switzerland. When her dream of becoming a ballet dancer ended, she followed in her father's footsteps and became an actress. Director David Lean chose her to play Tonya, the main character's devoted wife in "Doctor Zhivago" (1965). The movie is based on a novel by Boris Pasternak.
Geraldine Chaplin had a long relationship with Spanish director Carlos Saura, and she has starred in nine of his movies, including "Cria" (1976), "Elisa, Vida Mia" (1977), and "Mama Turns a Hundred" (1979).
She has two children, Shane and Oona.
She has appeared in numerous films through her long career. She played the role of her own grandmother Hannah Chaplin (Charlie Chaplin's mother) in the autobiographical film on her father Chaplin. Some of the most notable English language films include:
