George Reisman is Professor of Economics at Pepperdine University, and author of the massive 1,050-page volume Capitalism: A Treatise on Economics (ISBN 0915463733). He is also the author of earlier book The Government Against the Economy (1979), contents of which are mostly subsumed in Capitalism. Reisman earned his Ph.D from New York University under the direction of Ludwig von Mises, and is an outspoken advocate of free market or laissez-faire capitalism.
In Capitalism, Dr. Reisman seeks to achieve a synthesis of the Classical and Austrian Schools of Economics, uniting the doctrines of Adam Smith, David Ricardo, John Stuart Mill and Jean-Baptiste Say with those of Carl Menger, Ludwig von Mises and Friedrich Hayek.
Dr. Reisman was a close associate of Ayn Rand, whose influence on his thought and work is at least as great as that of his mentor Mises. He identifies himself as an Objectivist, though he is no longer affiliated with the Ayn Rand Institute due to a falling out with some of its senior members.
