Genesee Falls is a town located in Wyoming County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 460.
The Town of Genesee Falls was incorporated in 1846. It is in the southeastern corner of the county. The town was created from part of the Town of Pike and from part of the Town of Portage in Livingston County, New York.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 40.7 km² (15.7 mi²). 40.2 km² (15.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.08% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 460 people, 170 households, and 126 families residing in the town. The population density is 11.4/km² (29.6/mi²). There are 194 housing units at an average density of 4.8/km² (12.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.17% White, 0.43% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 1.74% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 170 households out of which 37.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% are married couples living together, 15.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.3% are non-families. 18.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.06.
In the town the population is spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 33.5% from 25 to 44, 17.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who are 65 years of age or older.
