GAME FREAK inc. (ゲームフリーク) is the Japanese video game developer behind the Pokémon series of RPGs, as well as several other games.
The company was founded on April 26, 1989 by Satoshi Tajiri (田尻 智 Tajiri Satoshi, born August 28, 1965). In honor of the founder, the lead character in the Pokémon TV series was named Satoshi (in Japan).
Their most popular RPG series, Pokémon, is published by Nintendo in both Japan and North America. Pokémon is formally known as Pocket Monsters (ポケットモンスター Poketto Monsutaa) in Japan, and the abbreviation "ポケモン"(Pokemon) is derived from the Japanese spelling.

Game Freak is currently developing "Screw Breaker" an all new game for Game Boy Advance, along with "Pokemon XD" for the Nintendo GameCube, and the "Diamond" and "Pearl" versions of Pokemon for the Nintendo DS.
